Why did India choose MSD as a Mentor for T20 World Cup 2021

ambitionprep_._com_blog

We bet you are excited by the news that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is going to mentor team India in the T20 world cup this year.
This was an unexpected move but it establishes how at the most competitive levels, even with an experienced squad you need a mentor who can be around the players and to help them achieve their ambitious goals

Lets discuss the following in this post

  • Why mentorship matters for achieving ambitious goals !
  • What is MSD expected to do in his role
  • Lets uncover the real meaning of MENTOR

Why mentorship matters

Right from the time you are born you have needed a mentor. Parents are our first mentors who help us exist. In school you get teachers who help you comprehend the complexities of education.Once you grow up and you are in your college or in your corporate job its really difficult to find a default mentor.

Though organizations look to provide mentors in people who are senior to you. But at the end of of it most people do not really see themselves sharing the same rapport as they had in their past with their teachers or parents?

Why does it happen?

Its simple, like any other job in the world mentor-ship too is a specialized job and you need someone who has faced what you are about to face in your life.

Given the fact that MSD helped India win not one but two ICC world-cup its only fair to assume that he best understands the complexities of facing up the challenge of a big match.

The current Indian leadership (Kohli-Sharma-Shastri) will have Dhoni to look up to whenever they will find themselves in a spot of concern.

What is MS Dhoni expected to do in his role?

Lets be very clear that a coach and a mentor are different and MSD is a mentor and he is not a coach.

Dhoni will be a part and strategy and will be allowed to give his solutions but in no way he will make decisions on behalf of captain or coach.

He can be the friend/big brother that you can walk up-to for help. He will hear you out and will help you decide what works bets for you by asking questions that you are hesitant to ask to yourself.

A good mentor makes you think and lets you arrive at your own decsion.

MSD is expected to mentor without being pushy. He is present to give answers but its you (team management) who has to ask the right questions.

What is MSDs role as a MENTOR?

Given the personality traits of MSD,Here is how we see him contribute as a MENTOR

  • Motivator
  • Educator
  • Neutral
  • Thinker
  • organizer
  • Reviewer

Motivator

We all have heard Dhoni motivating and guiding his bowlers from behind the stumps. He is a man of limited words but he surely know the words that gets job done. He can be a true motivator for the team with his accomplishments and no BS approach.

Educator

A good mentor is a good educator as he studies his mentee and we have seen that Dhoni is capable of educating batsmen and bowlers on the strengths and weaknesses of opponents.

Neutral

Not judging your mentee and staying bias free is an important trait of a good mentor. MSD in his stint as a leader shown his capability of maintaining a bias free stand on players and choosing what is best for the team.

Thinker

Thinking when you mind tells you to stop thinking is a trait that very few are able to accomplish. A mentor never gives up on thinking for solutions for his mentee. MSD has been able to master the art of thinking fast. Remember when he anticipated the last ball runabout on against Bangladesh and removed his one glove and won India a close contest.

Organizer

Organizing your troops and yourself when you are u against the wall is a strong test of character for both mentor and mentee. Dhoni in his cricketing career went on to organize a team which had established names like Sachin,Sehwag and Bhajji to reorganizing a young team with player like Virat,Rohit and Jadeja once the senior players were not around. He surely understands people and thus does exceptionally well in organizing people

Reviewer

A good mentor is able to review the faults and suggest corrections. DRS is alternatively reffered as Dhoni Review System. Dhoni could succeed at DRSs as he backed his instinct and analysis. Under his mentorship we can expect Kohli to improve his DRSs success rate!

Lets keep our fingers crossed and see what Indian team does under his mentorship.

Just like Indian cricket team you too NEED a MENTOR.
